Bodegas Luzón increased its sales by 20 per cent last year
The company is rolling out an ambitious research and development programme to launch innovative products onto the market.
More than half its turnover comes from abroad where its products are present in 36 markets
Bodegas Luzón increased its turnover in 2017 by 20.36 per cent, reaching 7.27 million euros. This increase is grounded in the launching of innovative products aimed at conquering the markets with high quality wine through an ambitious research and development programme, as well as its effort to boost wine tourism initiatives and sustainability.
A clear example of its commitment to innovation is the fact that Bodegas Luzón is a pioneer in the elaboration of ecological wines, whose commercialisation already makes up 20 per cent of the company’s total. These wines have also become vegan friendly since the 2016 vintage. With regards to wine tourism, last year more than 6,500 people took part in the wide variety of activities organised by the company to get to know the history, the present and the future of the winery from Jumilla.
Bodegas Luzón has just launched a new range of wines onto the market, Luzón Colección, made up of five new wines with which the company opens a new oenological era led by Vicente Micó and based on respecting the land. They are authentic wines which are made with local varieties from PDO Jumilla, whilst being innovative and modern, both in terms of the actual wine and packaging design. This range is a product designed to be used in catering and to be sold in wine bars and specialised shops
Its sales abroad make up more than half of its turnover and its products are present in 36 markets including six new ones last year. The winery was the first in Spain to sign a contract with a Chinese state distributor COFCO, who sells its wines in more than 2000 retailers. In addition, the company is expected to increase its sales in the United States and Canada by around 20 per cent in 2018.
As well as continuing to grow in other markets, both traditional as well as those considered emerging for wine consumption, Bodegas Luzón is firmly committed to national distribution, mainly in the restaurant industry.
Bodegas Luzón directly employs on average 34 people and its business activity creates more than 100 jobs indirectly.
As far as capital expenditure is concerned, in 2017 it reached one million euros which were mainly aimed at increasing the wine barrels and incorporating new technology in the elaboration process.
This company is one of the largest producers of wine with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Jumilla and its products have a distinct character with great prestige among experts and consumers.
The winery manages more 500 hectares of vineyards which produce excellent grapes of the monastrell variety, native to the area, with which they make elegant, fruity, pleasant wines, better and better positioned in the market for their careful preparation.
It must also be remembered that in 2017 Bodegas Luzón received the Wineries for Climate Protection certificate (WfCP) which defines it as an environmentally friendly company thanks to initiating a demanding policy of continuous improvement and sustainability.
Receiving this certificate from the Spanish Federation of Wine (FEV), and which only 10 highly prestigious wineries in Spain have, underlines Bodegas Luzón’s commitment to sustainability and fight against climate change, which was started years ago through natural wine production and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification. The organisation also meets the environmental sustainability criteria demanded by the main international distributors such as Walmart or Sainsburys.
