Bodegas Luzón is launching a new 2017 vintage of its most emblematic and distinctive wine. ‘Por ti’ is a blend of the Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, which are highly appreciated by connoisseurs and consumers alike. 14,925 bottles of this vintage are being brought out.
‘Por ti’ is an opaque cherry-coloured wine with a claret rim. It has a fruity nose, with aromas of ripe red fruit, spices, fine cocoa and toasted wood. On the palate, it has an excellent structure; it is candied and flavourful with ripe and sweet tannins. It is a pleasant wine with a long finish and great persistence.
As for its production, an extremely considered process with manual harvesting and a selection of the best grapes takes place before barrelling and fermentation. It is fermented in French oak casks for between 8 and 10 days and subsequently, it remains in contact with the skin during maceration. This wine is stored for 18 months in barrels that are made from 60 percent French oak and 40 percent American oak.
The grapes used to produce ‘Por ti’ come from vineyards with an extremely stony soil. With regard to Monastrell, this variety has a thick skin and is well balanced between sweet and tart, whereas Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are very small with great concentration and flavour.
The 2017 vintage was characterised by its very short and early harvest and very healthy vines. These factors are reflected in the concentration of the grapes and, as a result, the wine’s fruity expression stands out from the previous vintage.
The phrase “You are what I never dreamed of, what I never believed I deserved” sums up the history of this wine, which was created to pay homage to our loved ones, especially our children who will come after us. It is expressive and poetic both inside and out.
