ElPozo Alimentación invests 3.5 million to increase energy efficiency in its treatment plant
ElPozo Alimentación has invested 3,504,745 euros to increase the energy efficiency of its industrial waste water treatment plant (IWWTP), to take full advantage of the biogas produced in its anaerobic digesters. The initiative has consisted in modifying the gas lines of the IWWTP to take advantage of the biogas generated in the facility.
With the start-up of this project the biogas generated will be used to heat the sludge from the digester to more than 35 degrees centigrade and the remaining biogas will be driven to a boiler capable of generating 5,000kg/h of steam. In addition, ElPozo Alimentación has increased its pipe network with a capacity of 1,000Nm3/h of biogas, and has installed a new torch, as well as a biogas desulphurisation unit.
The idea of giving a new use to the waste from the treated water to favour the circular economy, is included in the environmental policy the company is rolling out, which includes, besides water treatment, the efficient production of energy for self-sufficiency.
The company carries out activities such as recycling and the production of clean energy in order to contribute to the planet’s sustainability, which has enabled it to get the Environmental Management Certificate UNE-EN ISO 14001. It also participates in the ‘A million commitments for the climate’ campaign, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment to improve environmental conditions on earth.
