Luzón Colección Monastrell becomes the best young monastrell wine from Jumilla, for the third year in a row
Bodegas Luzón has achieved honourable mention and three medals at the DOP Jumilla Quality Wines Competition
The Luzón Colección Monastrell wine won the gold medal and honourable mention again, for the third year in a row, at the 27th DOP Jumilla Quality Wines Competition, securing its position as the best young Monastrell without ageing in wood.
In addition to this award, the Luzón Colección Crianza 2018 won a gold medal and the Finca Luzón Blanco 2020 won silver.
The DOP Jumilla Quality Wines Competition is one of the longest running in our country, recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture since its establishment, to distinguish the quality wines bottled in the Designation. Its primary goal is to showcase production and pay homage to the undisputed queen in this region: the Monastrell grape.
In short, over the course of two days, more than 150 samples are submitted to be judged by a panel of 16 wine-tasting experts in a blind tasting. This way of working provides this competition with its unique identity, as the panel’s judging is a true reflection of current consumer demands with regards to trends and quality.
The winning wines
After the judges’ verdict was given, the quality of Bodegas Luzón wines was confirmed once again this year, therefore rewarding all the work carried out by the company in its continued search for excellence and the best representation of the Monastrell grape.
Luzón Colección Monastrell was declared as the best Monastrell wine from Jumilla in its category, for the third year in a row. It is a 100% Monastrell young red wine that conveys the essence of the Jumilla region and its variety.
In the vintage category, Luzón Colección 2018 won the gold medal. It is a blend consisting of Monastrell and Garnacha tintorera, aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels. The combination of the two native varietals produces a complex and balanced wine.
In the white wine category, Finca Luzón 2020 was awarded the silver medal. A wine made from Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, one of our most promising products amongst the winery’s young wines.
Bodegas Luzón is one of the leading producers of wine in the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin (DOP). Their products have a distinctive personality and a high level of prestige among experts and consumers.
